SUMMARY:Celebrating World Ocean Day in Buenos Aires\, Argentina
DESCRIPTION:During the World Ocean Day 2024 event at the University of Belgrano in Buenos Aires\, several impactful presentations and activities occurred. Dr. AyoJesutomi Abiodun-Solanke from Nigeria discussed using natural preservatives from underutilized plant materials to enhance fish preservation\, promoting ocean sustainability and supporting artisanal fishers. Engineer Gustavo Aldegani highlighted the environmental impact of computing and AI\, proposing strategies for energy efficiency\, renewable energy adoption\, and carbon footprint reduction. Dr. Patricia Morales from Belgium emphasized the integration of human rights into ocean protection\, aligning with the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals. Additionally\, Ms. Awa Djigal from Senegal highlighted the role of women in fisheries and advocated for agroecological diversification and better governance. The event also featured a role-playing game involving biology students\, simulating stakeholder discussions on establishing marine protected areas to promote marine biodiversity and sustainable resource management. The game encouraged collaboration among public authorities\, scientists\, fishers\, and NGOs\, underscoring the importance of cooperative efforts in ocean conservation.

SUMMARY:Future of Sustainability: Unlocking Our Ocean's Full Potential
DESCRIPTION:The ocean is vast but so are the challenges it faces. Ocean holds the future of our collective sustainability\, and we can no longer afford “out of sight out of mind”. \nFor youth to motivate and accelerate widespread momentum for the ocean\, we need to awaken new depths and unlock the full potential of our oceans. \nAs a youth-organized conference event\, Future of Sustainability at UN World Oceans Day 2024 will take us on a journey of reflection and discovery\, through the youth lens\, as we dive beneath the surface. Together\, we must embrace the beauty and power of our oceans\, and explore and engineer new depths of understanding\, compassion\, collaboration and commitment for the ocean. \nThe event will showcase environmental and social innovation-driven initiatives\, projects and communities co-founded and co-designed for youth for the purpose of advancing marine conservation. \nUN World Oceans Day 2024 is hosted by the Division for Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea (@undoalos) of the Office of Legal Affairs in partnership with Oceanic Global and Friends of World Oceans Day.

SUMMARY:United Row's Race Across the Pacific
DESCRIPTION:Cheer on best friends\, Anna McLean & Jenny D’Anthony as they attempt a record breaking challenge to be the youngest and fastest female pair to row across the Pacific Ocean for The World’s Toughest Row. \nThey will leave on UN World Oceans Day\, Saturday\, June 8th 2024 from Monterey\, California and finish 2800 miles and approximately 60 days later at Hanalei Bay on the stunning island of Kaua’i\, Hawaii. \nAnna & Jenny met almost 10 years ago on the Clemson Rowing Team. Anna from the United Kingdom & Jenny from the United States known together as “United Row” \n“At Clemson we have alway been able to count on each other to pour their heart into every race whilst having a good time. \nWe’ve always had each others back\, both on and off the water. By fate or by luck we ended up living together in a small town in Arizona and from then on passion for adventure and challenge flourished. \nFinding ourselves doing spontaneous adventures.. summiting mountains on repeat\, cycling as far as our legs would take us all in ‘mostly’ high spirits and whacky 1/2 marathons… our friendship thrived when we both realized we always say “YES!” \nIt was an inevitable “Yes!” to our next adventure\, Rowing the Pacific. Standing united\, we are ready to conquer the pacific ocean together with your support.” \nJenny and Anna are advocates for the ocean and the environment and will be rowing through the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. By rowing across the Pacific\, they want to awaken new depths of understanding\, compassion\, collaboration\, commitment\, and more. They are also rowing to help financially support Clemson’s women student-athletes. \nJenny is an open water ocean swimmer in Jacksonville\, Florida\, which connects her with Joni Roberts and Evolution University\, Friends of UN World Oceans Day and UN Global Goals Week Partner. \nHead to United Row’s website to find ways you can support fundraising efforts and follow Evolution University on social media for updates on their adventure. Find us with #EvolveOurWorld. \nUnited in Sport – United in Education – United in Leadership
