SUMMARY:Ross Edgley’s Great Icelandic Swim – For Ocean Conservation
DESCRIPTION:This June\, ultra-endurance athlete Ross Edgley will attempt to become the first person in history to swim the entire coastline of Iceland\, over 1\,000 miles through sub-zero waters\, volcanic currents\, and fierce arctic storms. But this isn’t just a world record attempt\, it’s a call to action for the ocean. \nThe Great Icelandic Swim is the centerpiece of a collaboration\, in partnership with a powerful coalition of researchers\, explorers\, and creatives. The project combines adventure\, science\, and storytelling to inspire a global audience to care for our ocean and take action against microplastic pollution. Future Oceans International is proud to be one of those collaborators and tell our story along side the swim. \nThroughout the expedition\, Ross and the support crew aboard SKIRR Adventures’ vessel will collect microplastic and eDNA samples\, supported by the University of Iceland\, the Marine and Freshwater Research Institute of Iceland (HAFRO)\, and the EU-based #BioProtect project. The University of Victoria (UVic) will contribute data analysis and scientific storytelling to engage public audiences. \nRoss’ expedition is made possible with expedition support from BMW UK and Gym King\, and promotional support from Wasserman\, Big Wave TV\, and the Future Oceans creative team\, which includes experts in science\, education\, music\, and marketing. Collectively\, we aim to celebrate ocean science\, raise awareness of invisible ocean threats like microplastics\, and share the wonder of our blue planet. \nFuture Oceans International will premiere a special video and host a live stream on our website www.futureoceansinternational.com at 12 PM MST on June 8th in celebration of UN World Oceans Day\, don’t miss this moment of wonder\, storytelling\, and ocean action.

SUMMARY:#todayplasticfree
DESCRIPTION:We – Orange Ocean – are a German NGO (founded 2019) planning a TV\, digital and influencer marketing campaign in the GSA region (Germany\, Switzerland\, Austria) celebrating the WOD 2024. All major media companies (eg ProSiebenSat.1 Media and RTL Group) are going to support pro bono our initiative two weeks ahead of the WOD 2024. \nThe claim of the campaign will be #heuteplastikfrei (#todayplasticfree). We want consumers to do their groceries on Saturday\, June 8th avoiding single use plastic packaging honoring the UN WOD 2024. \nConsumers will be motivated to take a picture of their purchase and share it under the above mentioned hashtag (#heuteplastikfrei) on their social media accounts. Our landing page (www.orangeocean.org) will explain how to participate in the movement in three easy steps. Afterwards we will analyze the impact of the campaign (number of posts). \nThe objective of the campaign is to celebrate WOD 2024 in taking action and sending out a message to the various stake holders such as retail\, industry and politics. We want the campaign to scale and have a collective impact. \nSocial posts: 7 seconds and 30 seconds

SUMMARY:NEMO Talk: Seafloor garbage in the Salish Sea: Taking out the Trash w/ Susan Anthony
DESCRIPTION:Join us with Susan Anthony to talk about the unseen underwater trash that fills up nearshore environments. \nHuman-made debris enters the water and disappears below the surface. There it stays\, smothering the sediment and its organisms\, leeching pollutants\, and breaking into smaller and smaller pieces\, but never going away. SeaChange and its partners have spent the last decade restoring and conserving nearshore habitats\, which includes underwater debris removal. \n“I am a passionate and curious scientist\, natural historian\, and conservationist. I have a BSc from the University of Victoria in Biology with a minor in Ocean Sciences”\, Susan Anthony. \nRead more about Susan and her NEMO talk on our website at the link in our bio. \n🗓 Friday June 7\n⏰️ 12-1PM

Use your creativity in any way to respond to these prompts- \n6-8 June- Planet Ocean \n9-11 June- Stories of the sea \n12- 14 June- Wonders Beneath the Waves \n15-17 June- Ocean Curiosities \n18-20 June- The Ocean Unites \nUse the hashtags: #ForPlanetOcean #ForPlanetOcean2024 #AMCS \nTag @forplanetocean @marineconservation.au so we can find and share your work! \nOur team of hosting artists will be creating work to inspire you as well as providing support and encouragement during the challenge. The hosting team will be supporting AMCS in various ways through auctions\, print sales and by telling the stories of the incredible work they do.

SUMMARY:NEMO Talk: Green Crab Monitoring along the Pacific Coast
DESCRIPTION:What’s happening along the Pacific Coast with monitoring of the invasive European Green Crab? \nJoin our NEMO talk on June 4th to hear from Tyranna Souque\, a data manager/early detection lead with @coastrestore\, an environmental non-profit based out of Vancouver Island\, BC. SUMMARY:Marine Impacts of Private Moorage in kalpilin (Pender Harbour)
DESCRIPTION:What are the impacts of private moorage in kalpilin (Pender Harbour)? \nJoin our NEMO talk on June 3rd to hear from Sacha O’Regan\, lead scientist on the M.C. Wright Report. Sacha is a professional biologist who has worked in the realm of freshwater and marine aquatic ecology in BC since 2010. \nDocks and other overwater structures are common features along urbanized shorelines. Though these structures can provide commercial and recreational opportunities\, they may also have adverse impacts on the marine environment and other coastal land uses. In March 2018\, the environmental consulting firm M.C. Wright and Associates Ltd. concluded a two-phase study of dock impacts on the marine environment in Pender Harbour. \nPhoto Credit: Sacha O’Regan
