SUMMARY:The Explorers Club World Oceans Week - Day 2
DESCRIPTION:World Oceans Week Tuesday will highlight the first of our ambassador species – krill\, and then explore the unique and delicate ecosystems of the Red Sea. \nTUESDAY\n3:00 pm – Future Waves: Ocean Superheroes & the Next Generation of Exploration \nJoin a salon-style gathering bringing together legendary explorers and the next generation of ocean storytellers\, inventors\, and conservationists to celebrate curiosity\, exploration\, and the future of ocean discovery through the lens of Future Waves youth scholars.\n3:30 pm – Announcing the upcoming World Ocean Assessment III \nLearn about “possibly the most important book about the ocean ever written.” Led by Richard Vevers\, Director of Room 71 at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution\, with Ms. Bahia Tahzib\, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the UN\, Ms. Kimberly Louis\, Deputy Permanent Representative of Saint Lucia to the UN\, and Dr. Sylvia Earle.\nNote: the 3:00-4:00 pm programs above are at capacity\, and sign ups are closed. \n5:00 pm – Krill Power \nThe first of our annual ambassador hours\, featuring Dr. Kim Bernard\, of Krillseeker Lab\, Dr. Johnny Briggs\, director of Pew Bertarelli Ocean Legacy\, and Ashlan Gorse Cousteau\, Journalist\, Ocean Restorationist and Entrepreneur. This panel will discuss the crucial role these tiny crustaceans serve in our complex ocean ecosystems\, as well as the challenges facing krill populations today. \n6:30 pm – Tales from the Red Sea \nIn partnership with Red Sea Global\, and anchored by the work of 2026 EC50 laureate Raquel S. Peixoto\, this program will dive into the unique ecosystem of the Red Sea. With it’s high resilience to extreme temperatures\, exceptionally high salinity\, and high levels of endemic species\, the Red Sea faces distinct environmental problems – but it also may present a number of potential solutions that can be applied to other ecosystems worldwide in the battle against coral bleaching. Featuring Dr. Edward Oldmeadow\, and with special remarks from Her Deepness Sylvia Earle.
