SUMMARY:The Explorers Club World Oceans Week - Day 5
DESCRIPTION:Oceans Week Friday will illuminate the mysterious squids of the deep ocean through a film screening\, and end with our famous WOW closing party. \nFriday\n5:00 pm – A Life Illuminated \nOur squid ambassador session features a screening and convo on the new film about marine biologist Edie Widder\, first to film a live giant squid in U.S. waters.\nSynopsis: A Life Illuminated follows trailblazing marine biologist Dr. Edie Widder—one of the first women in her field and one of the first humans to explore the ocean’s twilight zone—as she descends 3\,300 feet into the ocean’s darkest depths. From capturing the first-ever footage of the elusive giant squid to unveiling the glowing mysteries of deep-sea bioluminescence\, Edie embarks on her most daring quest yet: to document a bioluminescent phenomenon that could forever change how we understand life on Earth.\nFeaturing: Dr. Edie Widder (remote) and in-person Filmmakers Tasha Van Zant and Sebastian Zeck\, and Erika Montague\, Chief of Technology\, Schmidt Marine Technology Partner. Moderated by Gaelin Rosenwaks. \n7:00 pm – Roots & Tides Party \nEnter the mangrove to close the week with a party like none other — an ecosystem of experience awaits. SUMMARY:World Ocean Day for Schools
DESCRIPTION:World Ocean Day for Schools provides educators with the inspiration\, resources & activities to engage their students in more meaningful conversations about the ocean. Since its launch in 2018\, World Ocean Day for Schools has focused on increasing ocean literacy in schools. We’ve evolved from a small-scale event with 400 schools to an interactive online festival with over 100k users. We’re proud to be a UN Ocean Decade endorsed project. \nThis year at World Ocean Day for Schools\, we’re exploring blue careers. We want kids to know that\, no matter where they live or what skills they have\, they can work in ocean conservation. We’ll be introducing them to a crew of amazing individuals around the world who will share their stories\, answer questions and hopefully\, make kids think: wow\, that could be me. \nRegistration is free\, and everything you need – teacher toolkits\, lesson plans and worksheets- is downloadable on our website. All you need to do is add your local blue space to the map\, and you’ll be good to go!
