SUMMARY:World Rowing – WWF Healthy Waters Alliance: Norway Clean-Up Week & Marine Restoration
DESCRIPTION:The World Rowing – WWF Healthy Waters Alliance is supporting an ambitious two-phase project to inspire action and raise awareness across Norway’s and the global rowing\ncommunity. Spearheaded by Olympian and World Rowing Healthy Waters Alliance Ambassador Martin Helseth\, the project aims to mobilise Rowing clubs along the Oslo\nFjord for large-scale clean-up and marine restoration efforts. \nThe initiative highlights the power of sport in protecting & restoring nature through tackling pollution in their waterways. \nTwo Key Phases to Create Lasting Change: \n• Phase 1: Clean-Up Week (3–8 June 2025)\nCoinciding with World Ocean Day (8th June)\, local Norwegian Rowing clubs around Oslo and underwater divers from the Norwegian National Diving Federation will come together for underwater seabed clean-up dives\, onshore clean-up efforts\,\nenvironmental education\, and sustainability advocacy. This week of action will target pollution hotspots in and around the Oslo Fjord and empower clubs to sustain future clean-up efforts and will culminate in a seabed clean-up dive at the Christiania Rowing Club on the 8th of June\, where media representatives are invited to attend the event. \n• Phase 2: Oslo Fjord Restoration Day (23 August 2025)\nFeaturing a fun day of youth engagement and education around habitat restoration led by local NGO Marea and Martin Helseth\, this day will be a milestone in long-term marine protection efforts in the Oslo Fjord. \nA Movement Led by a Champion: As a World Rowing Healthy Waters Ambassador\, Martin Helseth brings both athletic excellence and passionate environmental advocacy to the forefront. Through his leadership\, the initiative is setting a global example for how athletes and clubs can protect their freshwater and coastal ecosystems they depend on. \n“This isn’t just about cleaning up—it’s about creating a movement of new generation nature protectors in our sport\,” says Helseth. “We are showing that small actions at the club level\ncan ripple outward to global change.”
