Tiny Heroes of Our Sea - A Documentary on Brunei's Marine Life

Mayo 09 2019 @ 12:00 AM - Julio 08 2019 @ 12:00 AM

The theme for World Oceans Day 2019 is ‘Together we can protect and restore our ocean’. In conjunction with the event, Brunei will be seeing a number of initiatives driven to create awareness on plastic pollution. The Department of Environment, Parks and Recreation has recently launched a No Plastic Day Everyday campaign during Earth Day 2019 and a promotional video has been made to spread this awareness. There are also many social enterprises and NGOs pressing for similar issues. Enforcing the current momentum on marine conservation, Brunei will see a collaborative effort of various conservation groups, celebrating the month of June 2019 with the theme ‘Protecting Our Sea’.

BruWILD will focus on highlighting the importance of small marine creatures that play big, important roles in sustaining marine ecosystems through a long-form documentary, in collaboration with Our Seas, Our Legacy, entitled ‘Tiny Heroes of Our Sea’, drawing parallels with how seemingly small, ordinary and everyday actions by individuals can have a collectively significant impact for our oceans.

Objectives
  • To highlight Brunei’s marine environmental landscape, and biodiversity, with a focus on small animals
  • To feature the morphology and behaviour, ecosystem services and economic contributions of small marine animals
  • To contextualise Brunei’s marine landscape specifically (e.g. species; dive sites) to instil a sense of pride and appreciation amongst locals
  • To emphasise the contribution of smaller organisms to a larger ecosystem, paralleling positive human contributions on the marine environment, in celebration of World Oceans Day
