UNU-IAS Operating Unit Ishikawa/Kanazawa (OUIK) in Japan will hold an online seminar ‘Noto’s Satoumi Seminar’ in commemoration of World Oceans Day, 6 June, as designated by the UN. Discussions will be centred around SDG 14 Life Below Water Target 1 – By 2025, prevent and significantly reduce marine pollution of all kinds, in particular from land-based activities, including marine debris and nutrient pollution.
In recent years, there has been a growing interest in the issue of marine plastic waste both domestically and internationally. The state of marine pollution will be discussed, including measures to combat pollution caused by economic activities. There will also be opportunities to share ideas on what can be done to achieve this goal with biodiversity experts and a local business owner from Noto area in Ishikawa prefecture.
