We are all just one ocean – Somos todos um só oceano!

A conversation with Dr. Zelinda Leão, a pioneer in the study of Brazilian reefs, Zélia Brito, the Head of Rocas Atoll Biological Researve, and an award-winning conservationist,  MSc. Mariana Thevenin, oceanographer and founder of Oceano para Leigos  and Johnny Lima, fisherman and Brazilian LTER site (PELD CCAL) collaborator, will be broadcast live on youtube. Each of the guests will talk about how the Tropical Southern Atlantic Ocean has influenced their lives! The event was created in honor of World Ocean Day by Dr. Bárbara Pinheiro (Lacos 21 / Instituto Ayni). The Event was organized by the Laboratório de Conservação no Século XXI in colaboration with Instituto Ayni de Conservação e Desenvolvimento Social and the Brazilian long term ecological research site, PELD CCAL. We are a big family. Our work reflects our interests in ecology, applied conservation, biogeography, education and science communication. We aim to approach conservation science and ecology in an interdisciplinary way, incorporating ideas and frameworks from different disciplines, including social sciences, to better address fundamental issues such as extinction, population decline and the impacts of climate change on biodiversity.
 

Será transmitida ao vivo pelo youtube, uma conversa com a Dra. Zelinda Leão, pioneira no estudo dos recifes Brasileiros, com a Chefe da Reserva Biológica do Atol das Rocas, e premiada conservacionista, Zélia Brito, com a oceanógrafa MSc. Mariana Thevenin, fundadora do @oceanoparaleigos e com o pescador e colaborador do PELD CCAL, Johnny Lima. Cada um dos convidados irá falar sobre como o oceano atlantico sul tropical influenciou nas suas vidas! Evento criado em homenagem ao dia mundial dos oceanos pela Dra. Bárbara Pinheiro (Lacos 21/ Instituto Ayni). Esse evento faz parte da campanha #fiqueemcasacomciencia organizada pelo Laboratório de conservação no Século XXI em parceria com o Instituto Ayni de Conservação e Desenvolvimento Social e o Projeto ecológico de longa duração da Área de Proteção Ambiental Costa dos Corais Alagoana (PELD CCAL). Somos uma grande família. Nosso trabalho reflete nossos interesses em ecologia, conservação aplicada, biogeografia, educação e comunicação da ciência. Temos o intuito de abordar a ciência da conservação e da ecologia de forma interdisciplinar, incorporando ideias e quadros de diversas disciplinas, incluindo as ciências sociais, para melhor abordar questões fundamentais como a extinção, a diminuição das populações e os impactos das mudanças climáticas na biodiversidade.
