People, Plastics & Life Below Water

25 April

12:30 pm

The Sea Squad Mount Lavinia (TSSML) is a community group in Sri Lanka working towards environmental protection – especially the Ocean, for a cleaner planet and a better tomorrow. The TSSML considers Awareness Creation as an effective way to make positive changes in its area of interest. It holds monthly awareness programmes to show the importance of protecting the Ocean – our life giver; and to tell that urgent action is needed to reduce marine plastic pollution that is affecting marine life and our very own health and wellbeing. So far, numerous Sri Lankan experts on the subject have presented at these online programmes that have made small but positive changes on the ground.

Dr. Terney Pradeep Kumara, General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of the Marine Environment Protection Authority of Sri Lanka who is also a Marine Biologist with wide experience will be the Guest Speaker at TSSML’s online awareness programme for April 2021. Sharing his experiences, Dr. Terney Pradeep Kumara will talk about how plastics mismanaged by people have affected life below water; the health and livelihoods of people; and our duty to manage marine plastic pollution to achieve Sustainable Development Goal target 14.1.

The TSSML will be pleased to have you joining on Sunday, the 25th of April 2021 from 6.00pm to 7.00pm IST (12.30pm to 1.30pm GMT).
