Plymouth Celebrates World Ocean Day _ Marine Biological Association

June 08 2017 @ 4:30 AM - June 10 2017 @ 6:30 PM

Sea Change will join other MBA staff and local organisations in Plymouth to maximise engagement with World Oceans Day throughout the city.

On the 8th of June, at low water (12.11), we will join CoCoast volunteers and members of the public for a rocky shore survey at Firestone Bay. A group of school children, together with Mewstone Enterprise and Millfields Inspired will join the celebration at Firestone Bay for some Crab Watch and ‘beach desk’ activities.

At the same time, Sea Change will lead an ocean literacy workshop for 12-14 year olds at the MBA, and the day will be complete with a MBA-led Plankton Workshop at Mount Batten Centre for young people on a residential course.

Celebration will continue into the weekend, as the MBA will host two seagrass live-stream events on Friday (9th) and Saturday (10th) for a school group and MBA members respectively.

Harnessing the Power of People to Fight Ocean Trash

The International Coastal Cleanup began more than 30 years ago, when communities rallied together with the common goal of collecting and documenting the trash littering their coastline. The movement was catalyzed by the passion and spirit of two committed individuals. Back in 1986, Linda Maraniss moved to Texas from Washington, DC, where she had been working for Ocean Conservancy.
