As part of the 2020 UN World Oceans Day initiative “Innovation for a Sustainable Ocean,” The Solgaard Foundation is hosting a panel discussion to unveil The Ocean Plastic Filter project.

The Ocean Plastic Filter seeks to stop over 3 billion pounds of ocean-bound plastic annually.
The discussion will be moderated by Danni Washington and panelists include industry leaders on river cleanup solutions. Tyler Gearheart from Mr. Trashwheel, a system that collects plastic and prevents polution in the Baltimore Harbor, Philip Ehrhorn from The Great Bubble Barrier, a Dutch technology company using bubbles to direct plastic in river flow, and Adrian Solgaard, and inventor and entreprenuer who creates travel gear from upcycled ocean plastic.
The discussion will consist of panelists sharing insights and key learnings from their experiences in order to create the largest waste collection system, which has the potential to singlehandedly prevent 20% new ocean-bound plastic annually. Discussion will cover the technologies being used and some of the challenges that will be faced by such a large scale operation.
Following the panel discussion, a live Q&A session will take place allowing attendees to ask questions pertaining to The Ocean Plastic Filter initiative.

Danni Washington, Moderator
Daniell "Danni" Washington is an American activist, artist and presenter who campaigns for cleaner, plastic-free oceans. She founded the Not-for-Profit Big Blue & You, and presents the STEM-themed TV show Xploration Nature Knows Best.
Tyler Gearhart from Mr. Trashwheel
Tyler Gearhart is the Director of Business Development for Clearwater Mills LLC, which manufactures and operates stormwater trash interceptors. The company is best known for its Trash Wheels, which have been hailed as one of the most effective systems for stopping plastics pollution flowing from rivers into the world’s ocean. In addition to fielding Trash Wheel inquiries from around the world, Tyler has assisted with the planning and design of Trash Wheel projects in Baltimore, Honolulu, Indonesia, and Panama.
Philip Ehrhorn, CTO at The Great Bubble Barrier
Philip Ehrhorn is Chief Technology Officer at The Great Bubble Barrier. Before he became Co-founder of the company he developed his own Bubble Barrier during his Bachelor Naval Architecture & Ocean Engineering (TU Berlin). He decided to join forces with The Great Bubble Barrier. Philip is working on the further product development of the Bubble Barrier and the implementation of new projects.
Adrian Solgaard, Founder of Solgaard, Inventor of The Ocean Plastic Filter
Sustainable entrepreneur, thought leader, and inventor, Adrian Solgaard, is the Founder and CEO of sustainable travel goods and accessories company, Solgaard. In 2018 his invention The Carry-On Closet won Time Magazine’s Best Inventions of 2018 and in 2020 Shore-Tex™(a fabric made from ocean-bound plastic) was a finalist in Fast Company’s‘World Changing Ideas’.
