World Oceans Day Celebration on the river Ilm in Weimar

June 09 2018 @ 1:00 PM - June 10 2018 @ 4:00 PM

For the first time, mountain2ocean will celebrate World Oceans Day in Weimar, Germany in the direct vicinity of the unique Klima-Pavillon (Climate Pavilion) on June 9 and 10.

The event points out to the global issue of ocean plastic pollution - sources and effects - through a poster exhibition, combined with several activities like a cleanup in the Park on the river Ilm, catching freshwater plankton and identifying it under the microscope as well as reading ocean stories to children and inspiring them to paint their favorite ocean animal. It’s a great opportunity for young people and grown-ups to learn about the sources and effects of plastics in the environment and how to make a difference with simple measures everyone can take.

Harnessing the Power of People to Fight Ocean Trash

The International Coastal Cleanup began more than 30 years ago, when communities rallied together with the common goal of collecting and documenting the trash littering their coastline. The movement was catalyzed by the passion and spirit of two committed individuals. Back in 1986, Linda Maraniss moved to Texas from Washington, DC, where she had been working for Ocean Conservancy.
