Founded in 2014, Restore Coral is a subsidiary program under Naturalia and 2050 Life Investments. Naturalia is a leader in conservation initiatives in Mexico and has been in action for over 29 years. 2050 Life Investments is the first impact investing venture capital B Corporation in Europe.
Since its foundation, Restore Coral has been specifically accelerating coral restoration initiatives at both local and federal levels. We also promote the implementation of market-based solutions to pave the way for sustainable & restoration tourism with the Ministry of Environment..
Restore Coral stands for: Social innovation focused on education that increases civic engagement for coral preservation & adaptation of emerging technologies towards the conservation of ecosystems.
Restore Coral serves as the strategic facilitator, integrator, and accelerator liaison for various coral projects with the operation support of the Mexican Institute of Fishery and the Center for Scientific Research and Higher Education at Ensenada.
In March 2019, the National Commission of Protected Areas requested Restore Coral to join efforts in combating the Stony Coral Tissue Loss Disease (SCTLD) propagating in the Mexican Caribbean. In response of this, Restore Coral proposed a Coral Genome Project; "NOAH'S ARK OF THE MEXICAN CORAL", operated by the National Subsystem for Aquatic Genetic Resources, the Mexican Institute of Fishery and the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
Restore Coral has partnered with Climate BlockChain Initiatives and Peace Boat US to support this project, witch will create the foundations for regenerative design of underwater ecosystems for present and future generations.
