Ocean Posters Against Plastic Pollution

International multi-cultural students poster cooperation with design departments of 34 academies and universities from all five continents.

The participating selected institutions are from Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Mexico, Mozambique, New Zealand, Peru, Russia, South Africa, Sweden, Uruguay, USA, and Venezuela. It was not a general tender. It is a non-commercial project.

It was started late 2016, deadline for submissions was the end of January 2018. More than 50 professor colleagues with more than 1000 students collaborated in the project, either in workshops or as semester work. Each participating institution contributed up to 10 best posters, so that there is a collection of c. 350 posters. Copyright is with the universities and the students.

These exciting and outstanding posters should contribute to raise global awareness about the gigantic global plastic pollution of the oceans, to influence a responsible use of plastic, and encourage sustainable thinking and behavior.

The students’ posters are a visual call to help preserve the Creation –  our blue planet, as the visual voice of the youth of the world.

The students were briefed by extensive information material. So that the posters cover by their design all aspects of plastic pollution. E.g. environmental pollution of coasts and beaches, or fish and seabirds eat the plastic parts and die a cruel death, or micro plastics from synthetic clothes, or scientists have detected plastic in the fish we eat and even in sea salt.

The global communications project is directed and curated by Helmut Langer, Germany (www.helmut-langer.eu), internationally renowned communication designer and worldwide experienced lecturer, as well a Past President of the International Council of Design. The project was only possible with the fantastic and dedicated cooperation with the professor colleagues, who are part of or have been recommended by Helmuts global network. A big thank you to them and to the students of course!

It is a great honour for the posters to be part of the UN World Oceans Day activities where they get worldwide attention. Because of space limit, only a selection of the posters can be shown. They represent all others - they are all part of this global celebration!

Below you will find the sample posters, but remember that their real visual power can only display in their original size of 70 x 100 cm.
