Host a photo and art exhibit featuring ocean-themed works by local professional artists as well as works by non-professionals expressing their connection to the ocean and their concern about ocean issues. Visit a WashedAshore exhibit near you that creates unique art displays out of plastic pollution to educate the public about the problem of marine debris.

Looking for more audience participation? Sponsor a “paint-off” and invite young and old alike to paint ocean-themed pictures in front of an audience. The event can have music and snacks and the best works (selected by the audience) can be showcased at your organization or a local zoo, aquarium, museum, library, or other public place. Be sure to use eco-friendly paint!

Alternatively, create artwork from other materials, even trash!

Hold a writing, poetry, or even video contest featuring stories about the ocean.

Pick the winners on World Oceans Day and hold a ceremony where the winners can share their works with a crowd. You could also create a virtual contest using social media and asking your followers to pick their favorite. Also be sure to check

MAREARTE - INTERNATIONAL ART EXIBITION June 03 2020 @ 2:00 PM - June 13 2020 @ 5:00 PM

The "MareArte" art project was born from an idea of the artist DIEGO RACCONI as a collective artistic initiative of works in small format, traveling through the postal system. The works of artists from different regions and from foreign countries focus on the varied relationship between man and the sea. Art can represent a valid awareness tool, through which to send a message to the community, stimulating virtuous behavior and evoking ancient customs and traditions.

How to use innovations for sustainable oceans? June 07 2020 @ 12:47 PM - June 14 2020 @ 1:48 AM

Seas and oceans are God’s gift to us. Oxygen is primarily produced by marine plants. Besides, oceans are home to a variety of aquatic creatures.

Imagine what would happen if these creatures were to consume the plastic thrown in by us? Plastic is not just harmful for animals; it is also thought to be carcinogenic (a cancer causing agent). Now, imagine this. Are you a non-vegetarian? Do you eat fish? That way, you are indirectly consuming plastic.
