Capacity building for sustainable harvest, education and research
Future Fishers is a non-profit organization seeking to improve the sustainable use and management of coastal and marine resources.
This year’s World Ocean’s Day theme, Revitalization: collective action for the ocean, actually aligns with Future Fishers capacity building initiative for sustainable harvest, education and research. It recognizes the need to bridge the gap between the fishers along Trinidad’s North-east coast and the environment in which they operate. Our work encourages participation and collaboration of our fisheries stakeholders in the sustainable use of the local coastal and marine resources. Currently, our work is aimed at improving collective thinking and actions among fishers, and influencing their attitudes to act as true custodians of the ocean.
