A conversation between Dolores Barrientos Aleman, México’s representative Officer UN Environment, Dr. Elva Escobar Briones, Professor in Oceanography at Intituto de Ciencias del Mar y Limnología (ICML) UNAM and Rosa Isabel Mendoza Camacho, Secretary of Sustainable Development of Sinaloa State. The event will be moderated by Raquel Zapien, journalist and Director of the local environmental website Son Playas.

The dialogue aims to explain the efforts of international institutions about environmental issues of the oceans, but also the challenges for linking science and other publics in order to solve them.

Our speakers will explain some actions happening in the context of World Ocean Day and the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development; make an account of the most relevant ocean problems in México and specially in the Gulf of California; finally, they will talk about local efforts, as the one envisaged by the Centro de investigaciones Oceánicas del Mar de Cortés.
