The documentary by the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO-CSIC) ‘The future of the ocean’ is part of the dissemination activities of the Ocean Decade and shows the work that the IEO carries out to address the challenges that the UN has defined for the period between 2021 and 2030.
Under the slogan “The science we need for the ocean we want”, the UN has defined a series of challenges around which the documentary is structured: a “clean” ocean, a “healthy and resilient” ocean, a “productive” ocean, a “safe” ocean, a “predictable” ocean, an “accessible” ocean, and an “inspiring” ocean.
The future of the ocean, produced and directed by Mario Cuesta, was recorded throughout 2021 and shows, among other things, the work of the IEO during the volcanic crisis in La Palma, the monitoring that its scientists do of habitats of special interest for conservation or some of the pioneering research in the world on aquaculture of species such as bluefin tuna or octopus.
On June 8th at prime time, Spanish public television will premiere the documentary.
