| This webinar is being convened by the ISA Secretariat, in collaboration with the Secretariat of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission responsible for the Ocean Biodiversity Information System (OBIS). It will be moderated by Dr. Gordon Paterson, a member of the LTC.
The main objective of this webinar is to present an important recent cooperation undertaken between the ISA secretariat and OBIS for sharing biodiversity data and information. Building on the biodiversity data contained in ISA’s database, DeepData, this new partnership will contribute to enhance the global accessibility and visibility of deep-sea biodiversity data collected and submitted by exploration contractors carrying activities in the international seabed area (Area), including historical data collected in the past several decades. This webinar will share the perspectives of data provider (exploration contractors), as well as data users, in particular scientific communities. Special focus will be given on discussing the importance of ensuring data quality and standardization as well as enhancing capacity for data analysis and synthesis. ISA members, contractors, LTC members, and other relevant stakeholders will be invited to attend this webinar. |
