The theme chosen for this day “Planet Ocean: Tides are changing – Time to put the ocean first” emphasizes the importance of protecting the ocean for our planet, and the urgency of taking action to achieve this.
To celebrate this day, the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, chaired by Her Royal Highness Princess Lalla Hasnaa, and as a founding member of the Alliance of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, through its academic entity the Hassan II International Center for Environmental Training, will celebrate the United Nations World Oceans Day on June 8, 2023.

The activities will take place simultaneously at two levels:

1. Intramural activities with 100 attendees:
An International Conference at theHassan II International Center for Environmental Training will feature an intergenerational approach targetting both youth (through the Eco Schools, Young Reporters for the Environment, African Green Universities and Youth Education Network and African Youth Climate Hub initiatives) as well as teachers, experts, private sector and public sector decision makers through a range of other programs such as the Lalla Hasnaa Sustainable Coastline Awards, the Clean Beaches Program and the #b7arblaplastic initiative. The international conference will feature a storytelling session, a science session, an action focused session and an Intergenerational MasterClass.

2. Extramural activities with more than 1000 participants
In close collaboration with our partners across the Kingdom of Morocco, we will be carrying out at a large scale awareness-raising actions all over the country with a particular focus on youth, through the organization of in person visits to a range of relevant sites that highlight the importance of the ocean.
