In order to explore the different ways men and women in coastal communities use and manage coastal ecosystems and their services, this report is guided by 10 gender mainstreaming principles that promote socially just, environmentally sustainable and economically efficient development in coastal and marine contexts. Each of the 10 principles is illustrated in action through 10 case studies from countries with vibrant coastal communities and highlights the work of diverse stakeholders, such as conservation organizations and government ministries, and community-based groups. It also offers insights into how the COVID-19 pandemic is affecting these communities and their livelihoods, in terms of disaster preparedness, impacts, mitigation measures and lessons learned.
