Blått Kompass (“Blue Compass”) is an interdisciplinary ocean conference held in Tromsø, Norway. It brings together researchers, industry, government, youth, Indigenous voices, and civil society to discuss sustainable ocean development. The conference is free and open to the public, and it focuses on solutions related to UN Sustainable Development Goal 14 – Life Below Water.
As one of the few major ocean conferences in the Arctic region, Blått Kompass provides a vital arena for addressing marine issues in a northern and climate-sensitive context. It underscores the importance of northern perspectives in global discussions about the ocean’s future — from resource management and food security to geopolitics and biodiversity.
In a time of accelerating environmental change, Blått Kompass positions itself as a compass not only for researchers and institutions, but for society at large, guiding conversations, forming partnerships, and inspiring action to secure a healthy, just, and sustainable ocean.
