The Ocean Exhibition – Redbridge International School

May 19 - June 9

The Ocean” exhibition celebrates both European Maritime Day (May 21) and World Oceans Day (June 8), by emphasizing the generosity of the Ocean’ and the need for Maritime communities (such as Portugal) to give back to the Ocean by taking care of it.
Spread around the school’s main building are all the projects the students worked on during the year related to the Ocean. It ranges from celebrating the Ocean’s features to warning about its main threats and calling everyone to action by means of poems, drawings, posters, collages or dioramas.
The students are also invited to write on small sea creatures shaped paper sheets their thoughts about what the Ocean gives them. These are hung on the wall across the first part of the exhibition. At the end, visitors are invited to share their ideas on how to protect the Ocean on the same shaped paper sheets.
All the decoration was made by reusing waste from the school.
The exhibition will be held between 19 May – June 8 and is directed to the whole school community.

Dear Visitors,
Welcome! Join us to celebrate the European Maritime Day (May 21) and World Oceans Day (June 8) with a special exhibition that honours the generosity of our Ocean and highlights the urgent need to protect it.
The Ocean gives us nourishing food, breathtaking landscapes, and a home to extraordinary biodiversity. Yet, too often, we return the favor with pollution, litter, and overuse of its precious resources.
This exhibition is both a celebration and a call to action. It invites you to reflect on our relationship with the Ocean and explore ways we can show our gratitude and give back. As Sir David Attenborough reminds us:
“After living for nearly 100 years on this planet, I now understand that the most important place on Earth is not on land, but at sea.”
— David Attenborough
We hope you enjoy our exhibition and are inspired to join us in giving back to the Ocean, as it truly deserves.
What the Ocean Gives, What We Give Back | An Exhibition of Gratitude, Awareness, and Action
A Journey in Three Parts
1. The Ocean’s Gifts
Begin your journey by discovering the many ways the Ocean enriches our lives. Through creative and inspiring projects by our 1º ano, CE1, 6º ano and CM1 students, explore what the Ocean offers. Students have also shared their thoughts on what the Ocean gives us – try to find your children’s message.
2. Threats to the Ocean
Cross the first-floor corridor and take the second staircase to dive into the current challenges the Ocean faces. From pollution and climate change to overfishing, explore:
4º ano’s powerful posters on “Endangered Antarctic Species”.
3º ano’s awareness campaign about the “Baleia Franca” (Southern Right Whale).
3. How We Can Care for the Ocean
End your journey with a hopeful look forward. Here, CM1 students share some ideas for protecting marine life, inspired by their Dolphin Project. We invite you to take part – leave your ideas, pledges or reflections on how we can give back to the Ocean in our special Crab Box 🦀!
