On June 8th, the World Ocean Day Virtual Seminar titled “Catalyzing Action for Our Ocean and Climate” took place in Lagos, Nigeria, organized by Fish Party and Mundus maris asbl, moderated by Johnson Adebukola. Esteemed speakers Esther Edewho, Oluwabunmi Fatoyinbo, and Fatimoh Ogundimu discussed crucial ocean conservation and climate change issues. Edewho highlighted effective strategies for ocean health activism, including stricter fishing regulations and community engagement. Fatoyinbo emphasized mangrove forest conservation to mitigate climate change, while Ogundimu focused on tackling marine plastic pollution through reduced production and improved waste management. The seminar underscored the urgency of protecting oceans for climate stability, advocating for continued collaboration, education, and advocacy. Prof. Stella Williams presented the first prize to Edewho, and Dr. Ayojesutomi Abiodun-Solanke closed the event, thanking attendees and urging further action. The seminar, attended by over 50 participants, fostered dialogue and contributed to the global ocean and climate action movement.
