Ross Edgley’s Great Icelandic Swim – For Ocean Conservation

June 8 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

This June, ultra-endurance athlete Ross Edgley will attempt to become the first person in history to swim the entire coastline of Iceland, over 1,000 miles through sub-zero waters, volcanic currents, and fierce arctic storms. But this isn’t just a world record attempt, it’s a call to action for the ocean.

The Great Icelandic Swim is the centerpiece of a collaboration, in partnership with a powerful coalition of researchers, explorers, and creatives. The project combines adventure, science, and storytelling to inspire a global audience to care for our ocean and take action against microplastic pollution. Future Oceans International is proud to be one of those collaborators and tell our story along side the swim.

Throughout the expedition, Ross and the support crew aboard SKIRR Adventures’ vessel will collect microplastic and eDNA samples, supported by the University of Iceland, the Marine and Freshwater Research Institute of Iceland (HAFRO), and the EU-based #BioProtect project. The University of Victoria (UVic) will contribute data analysis and scientific storytelling to engage public audiences.

Ross’ expedition is made possible with expedition support from BMW UK and Gym King, and promotional support from Wasserman, Big Wave TV, and the Future Oceans creative team, which includes experts in science, education, music, and marketing. Collectively, we aim to celebrate ocean science, raise awareness of invisible ocean threats like microplastics, and share the wonder of our blue planet.

Future Oceans International will premiere a special video and host a live stream on our website www.futureoceansinternational.com at 12 PM MST on June 8th in celebration of UN World Oceans Day, don’t miss this moment of wonder, storytelling, and ocean action.
